Deflection in Chess

Deflection in Chess
In chess, deflection is a tactical maneuver that forces opponent’s piece to leave the square, rank or file it occupies. The primary goal for this move is to expose opponent’s king or a valuable piece. This paves a way for a more advantageous capture or move. The basis of deflection is to ‘threaten’ an important piece, such as a queen or a rook, and then force it to move, leaving other piece(s) vulnerable to capture. This creates a significant material advantage for the player who executes deflection successfully.
A notable aspect of any successful deflection is to create a threat that cannot ignored by an opponent. A player, for instance, may threaten to capture a queen with a minor piece, such as a pawn or even a bishop. This forces the queen to move and exposing another piece. In this scenario, a player will have to choose between losing the queen and exposing another piece. In turn, this gives the player who makes the threat a tactical advantage.
The power of deflection in chess
Deflection is a versatile tactic in chess gaming. It that works perfectly in multiple instances and against players of all skill levels. It however, requires careful planning and evaluation before execution. A player needs to anticipate and predict the opponent’s moves and understand the position of the pieces on the board. Additionally, they must also be aware of potential counter-play from the opponent and be prepared to deal with it.
Eventually, deflection becomes a valuable tool in the chessboard for players in any skill level. It necessitates meticulous planning, precise execution, and a firm grasp of the position of the pieces on the board. A player can gain a significant advantage and gain control of the game by forcing an opponent’s piece to move away from its intended square. As a result, it is an important concept for chess players to understand and master in order to improve their game and win more matches.

Getting started
Once you are comfortable and ready to play real chess challenges, you need to read, understand, and agree to our terms and conditions, then sign up here. After signing up, you can log in, create or join live public chess challenges, and share the link with opponents. In the former, you can adjust the game time length, visibility, and preferred piece color, then share the challenge link with your friends. Public games will be visible to everyone on Eurochess, and they will be able to join. If you wish to play with a specific opponent, create a private challenge, then share the link with them.

Wallet and Escrow
Once you sign up, your Eurochess wallet gets activated immediately, and it can receive Eurochess coin deposits. The next step is to purchase Eurochess coins to top up your Eurochess wallet. This will enable you to create, join/accept real chess challenges. One Eurochess coin is equivalent to KES 50. Currently, we are only accepting deposits through M-PESA as we test other payment gateways.
On our platform, you need at least one Eurochess coin to play with friends or random players online. When two players challenge each other, we debit(deduct) each player one Eurochess coin and hold the coins in our Escrow account. On checkmate, whoever wins gets two coins. The loser doesn’t get back their coin. In case of a draw, each player gets back their coin.
As a result, this model makes our platform a micro-escrow service for online chess players.
Conversion and Withdrawals
You can convert your Eurochess coins back to Kenya Shillings at the same rate of 1 Eurochess coin= KES 50 and withdraw instantly to your M-PESA wallet. However, the minimum number of coins eligible for withdrawal is 4 Eurochess coins. Again, the applicable taxes will be deducted on Withdrawal.

Introducing EuroCAP

Introducing EuroCAP
In addition to the chess learning and escrow modules, we are also building EuroCAP- the first-ever chess-based Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart (CAPTCHA) for nerdy websites.
This will enable websites to authenticate real users by availing of a simple chess test. Our API will render a pop-up modal box where the challenge will be displayed on external websites interested in using our chess-based CAPTCHA.
Version 1.0 of EuroCAP is being tested, and we shall make a public announcement once it’s ready for use.
